WMU
WMU of VA is committed to spreading God’s love. One way is to meet human needs. Each of the ongoing ministry projects listed and described below addresses a need in which an individual or church gets involved.
-
Care Net Project. We provide assistance to Care Net Peninsula, a pregnancy care center whose mission is to bring practical help and hope to women facing unplanned pregnancy decisions on the Peninsula. Each September we collect clothing items for babies from birth to 1 year old and deliver them to the center.
-
Food Pantry. We collect canned food and other non-perishables including paper products throughout the year to donate to our local Social Services and Hands Across Mathews to help meet the need for basic necessities of people in Mathews.
-
Blanket Project. An ongoing project where we collect yarn and use it to make blankets which are given to cancer patients at Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters and the Gloucester Cancer Center.
-
Operation Christmas Child is a shoebox ministry of Samaritan’s Purse. We encourage church-wide participation in filling shoeboxes for this wonderful international ministry to children.
-
School Supplies. We collect and donate school supplies each August to our local Social Services which are given to area children for the upcoming school year.
We, the WMU, do a different project each month. The above covers only some of the many ministries we are involved in. If you are interested in learning more about WMU and how you can become involved, please call the church office or email us. There are many opportunities of service here locally as well as throughout the state of Virginia and beyond.
