WMU of VA is committed to spreading God’s love. One way is to meet human needs. Each of the ongoing ministry projects listed and described below addresses a need in which an individual or church gets involved.

  • Bland Ministry includes the dental clinic in the Appalachian Region in Southwest Virginia. They have the highest unemployment and poverty rates in the Commonwealth. We send Campbell Soup labels to them to assist in meeting their needs. This project is ongoing all year.

  • Mary and Elizabeth Project addresses teenage crisis pregnancy through a variety of ongoing ministries and prevention education. In September we collect items for babies from birth to 1 year old.

  • Food Pantry-  We collect canned food and other non-perishables including paper products throughout the year to donate to our local Social Services and Hands Across Mathews to help meet the need for basic necessities of people in Mathews.

  • Migrant/Rural Ethnic Ministries churches and association on the Eastern Shore depend on our support to conduct their ministries to migrant farm workers. We give money to fill health kit bags for the Migrant Ministry on the Eastern Shore. We also fill health kit bags for our local migrant workers.

  • Operation Christmas Child shoebox ministry of Samaritan’s Purse. We encourage church-wide participation in filling shoeboxes for this wonderful international ministry to children.

  • School Supplies are collected and donated to our local Social Services and given to area children for the upcoming school year.

We, the WMU, do a different project each month. The above covers only some of the many ministries we are involved in. If you are interested in learning more about WMU and how you can become involved, please let me know. There are many opportunities of service here locally as well as throughout the state of Virginia and beyond.
